It’s a well-known fact that the rapid pace of technological progress results in a tremendous amount of outdated computers, TV’s and other electronics, so we love to see creative solutions for repurposing e-waste. Answering a challenge from ReadyMade magazine, Julie Brzezinski created these clever DIY storage units from old boob tubes. Her stack of TV shelves makes a great showcase for displaying shoes, books, and other decorative items.

A master of tinkering with vintage wares, Brzezinski made a step by step guide to creating a sturdy stacked cabinet using television frames. Remember to be careful when extracting the TV guts — especially CRTs — as they can contains large amounts of lead. Also be sure to check your local area for take-back programs or other electronics recycling options to ensure proper disposal of the parts.

I once took the innards out of an old tv and put an aquarium in it. It was awesome if I do say so myself.

One can also install an LCD screen into the enclosure. You get a modern screen, in a classic look.
