Magical OLED Installation by Torafu Architects Is Inspired By Cherry Blossoms
Torafu Architects designed a magical installation inspired by Yozakura, a traditional Japanese custom of enjoying flowering cherry blossoms during the night. Commissioned by Kaneka for last year’s edition of the Milano Saloni, the twinkling installation exposed OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display panels, gently floating within Kaneka’s dark space. Thousands of LEDs emitted a gentle yet robust light, reminding visitors of the cherry blossom petals that shine during spring nights.
Thousands of red and white lights kept Kaneka’s area lit during the massive Italian design festival. Each OLED panel was decorated with delicate paper petals, shining and protecting the organic compound film.
Torafu Architects’s magical OLED installation is the perfect balance between the latest lightning technology and ancient Japanese traditions.
