Spider-Legged Templestowe Sporting Pavilion Built With Recycled Brick From Old Stadium

Celebrating its 100 year history, the <a href="http://www.templestowefc.com/" target="_blank">Templestowe Football Club</a> opened its <a href="http://inhabitat.com/striking-louver-wrapped-soweta-football-training-centre-in-south-africa/" target="_blank">new sporting pavilion</a> just in time for the first home game of the Templestowe Dockers. Designed by <a href="http://inhabitat.com/skinners-playground-kidscape-made-from-shipping-containers/" target="_blank">Phooey Architects</a> and inspired by cricket and football, the Templestowe Reserve Sporting Pavilion is climate, carbon and water neutral. Old bricks from the previous stadium were used to construct the new building and a series of solar panels on the zig-zag roof collect the sun's energy.

Located outside of Melbourne, Templestowe's football and cricket club's new home is made from brick and represented by different jumpers &amp; crests in the form and facade of the building.

Built from the reclaimed brick of the former facility, the new pavilion makes use of the recycled material as a way of exploring sustainability.

Names of past and present players, volunteers and members of the town are inscribed on the facade as a way to remember the influential people.

Inside, there are facilities for community and player training, and changing rooms that have exits right onto the playing fields.

The zig-zag roof line is an alternating pattern of solar panels and windows, absorbing the sunlight for energy and letting in daylight for lighting.

Templestowe was designed in order to be carbon and water neutral creating all of its own power and collecting its own water.

Steve Brennan, President of the Templestowe Football Club has called their new facilities the "Sydney Opera House of sporting pavilions".

The brickwork and form of the building was inspired by the V-shape of the players jerseys and flags.

Memories are evoked through the use of autographs on the side of the building.

The main entrance is made up of a three branched sculpture that appears as if it were in motion.

The solar panels peak out over the roof.
