Yuya Ushida's Collapsible XXXX_SOFA is an extraordinary, intricate piece of convertible furniture created from 8,000 interlocking sticks manufactured from recycled plastic bottles. The XXXX_SOFA builds upon Ushida's previous version of the piece, which was crafted entirely from bamboo. It's geometric structure—inspired by iconic works of engineering such as the Eiffel Tower—creates a sofa that can be neatly transformed into a chair, stool, table or bench. By adapting his original design to utilize injection-molded recycled plastic parts, the sofa will be be more durable than its bamboo predecessor, as well as easier to mass-produce.

Produced by Eindhoven’s Royal Ahrend NV, Ushida’s XXXX_SOFA is made of just 4 different lengths of sticks, rings and joints.

Each separate part is pretty average, but when put together it is easy to see that the whole is more than the sum of its parts.
