Produced by Eindhoven’s Royal Ahrend NV, Ushida’s XXXX_SOFA is made of just 4 different lengths of sticks, rings and joints. Each separate part is pretty average, but when put together it is easy to see that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. In a beautiful synergy, this transformable yet elegant piece of furniture can be contracted or expanded as needed.
The sofa’s 8000 sticks and 2000 rings are made from injection-molded recycled plastic bottles. Sofas, stools, tables, benches to name a few, can be created from only 8 different elements within the building kit. A more industrial version of a hand-made graduation project, Ushida’s magical expanding system has endless possibilities.
