The Boreraig house sits in a natural bowl in the landscape and low to the land to avoid interrupting the surrounding natural beauty. It is divided into three blocks using larch panels taken from fence posts and corrugated metal roofs. Stone walls were reused within the design and galvanised gates in the surrounding area provided metal for the construction.
The interior is lined with oak-faced plywood and Scottish stone floors, and is heavily insulated with external shutters. This is particularly important in this part of the world, where gales can rage through the winter months. An air source heat pump is used to heat water to make the residence extra efficient.
The building has won several awards for its design, specifically for connecting modern architecture, sustainability, and respect for the landscape.
