Buru Buru is one of Bittertang’s most spatial designs but it continues the thread of using alternative materials and building multi-functional performance spaces. (For example, their Burble Bup eco-friendly pavilion on Governor’s Island in New York has a roof made from iridescent inflatable tubes and a landscaped base of soil-filled fabric.)

The amphitheater is built from straw-filled tubes encased in biodegradable materials such as jute and nylon. The meandering straw wattles are tightly stacked and attached to a radial framework of trusses. The structure, which looks like a hillside shelter that blends effortlessly with its surroundings, will act as a temporary performance space lit with LED lights.
