Dennis Parren Light TowerDutch designer Dennis Parren created an imposing LED-powered sculpture for the Lowlands Music Festival in the Netherlands. The 18-meter-tall tower included a moving LED platform that projected black and white and colored shadows on the tower's triangular fabric panels, creating a calm light show that was meant to contrast with the festival's high-energy vibe.1
Dennis Parren Light TowerUsing the festival's theme "Kiss the Sky," Parren wanted to create a unique public sculpture that would stand out in the crowd, not only for its artistic factor, but also to serve as the festival's heart, providing a central meeting place in the crowded venue.2
Dennis Parren Light TowerThe artist, well accustomed to working with LED lighting, used a metal scaffolding framework to build the sculpture's frame, which he then covered in evenly-spaced steel cables and triangular fabric panels.3
Dennis Parren Light TowerInside the tower, a moving LED platform was installed to project the changing color patterns that illuminated the tower.4
Dennis Parren Light TowerAlthough the project consisted of few materials, the construction process was quite complicated.5
Dennis Parren Light TowerThe tower construction was quite complicated because the LED platform had to able to move, be rigged very precisely.6
Dennis Parren Light TowerThe tower used four LEDs to generate over 1,000 watts of light.7
