Egeon Architecten’s Wood-Clad Home Near Amsterdam Shows Energy Efficiency Through Smart Design

The new <a href="http://www.ijburg.nl/english">IJburg neighborhood</a> located on the Rieteiland-Oost Island of Amsterdam is home to a great <a href="http://www.egeon.nl/2_stadsvillarieteiland.html">new sustainable residence</a> by <a href="http://www.egeon.nl/">Egeon Architecten</a>. This 225 square-meter, three-story home is designed to maximize ground floor transparency while providing serene bedrooms and offices on the second and third floor. The home was designed with sustainability in mind, and many energy efficient and material conscious green building strategies were used. This home is a welcome addition to the progressive IJburg development, and it portrays the always impressive design aesthetics of Dutch architects.

The overall composition of the home leads the eye to believe that the second floor mass float in the air between two transparent volumes.

The house is also designed with an impressive combination of sustainable features. Because of the low temperatures in Amsterdam, the home was designed with a heat pump combined with low temperature underfloor heating.

A private staircase allows for visitors to go directly to the offices on the third floor without walking through the owners' home.

The third floor also opens to fantastic views of the island, and provides the owners with a private terrace surrounding offices for their home business.

High insulation values in the roof, walls and floors and heat resistant glass help to also create a tight thermal envelope. These help to keep the cost of heating and cooling low.
