If you’re an aspiring designer who has always dreamed of seeing your visions come to life, FIGMENT’s City of Dreams Pavilion Design Competition is now accepting submissions for their fifth annual contest! The contest partners with the Emerging New York Architects Committee of the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter and the Structural Engineers Association of New York, and is judged by a panel of architects and industry professionals – including yours truly! Designers, artists and architects are encouraged to submit their wildest sustainable and recyclable designs for the public pavilion, which will host visitors next summer on Governors Island.

Each year, the City of Dreams Pavilion acts as a focal point for the FIGMENT Festival. Situated on a lush hill with the skyscrapers of Lower Manhattan as a backdrop, the structure provides shelter and shade for visitors to the island. It will also be used for lectures, performances, and a place to learn about art programs on the island.
Creatives and inspired designers, both professional and novice, are encouraged to dream up fantastical designs that have a net zero impact on the environment. Upcycled materials, reused plastic and recycled cardboard have been among the winning designs over previous years, and serve as inspiration for future designs.

Once the season is complete, the pavilion must also be reusable – whether by recycling materials or by donating components to the community. Inspired dreamers can submit their proposals until August 15, 2014.
