Living Pots by Design Nobis are sustainable cultivation units that are comprised of 100 percent recyclable and reused materials. Made out of simple bent metal pieces and scrap pieces of log, the pots are flat-packed and assembled in a snap. Enabling energy and space efficiency, these modular living pots, which are perfect for growing plants, herbs and mushrooms, can be used in both personal and industrial applications.

The living pots are designed with the objective of reducing wood consumption. Made from scrap parts from industrial wood processing, they are minimalistic interventions for environmentally conscious growers eager to reduce their carbon footprint.

With growing popularity, organic cultivation is practiced both for industrial and individual purposes. These units offer an ecological way to grow food with a breathable material that certain beats plastic pots. Instead of using conventional sliced logs to retain the moisture necessary to cultivate mushrooms in particular, living pots made with reused wood prevent new trees from being cut. Alongside its modularity for maintenance and reuse of parts, the pots can be stacked for industrial use.

The pots are made up of three bent metal sheets and two pieces of log, allowing the transformation of a low profile material into a high profile pot with minimal material usage. One living pot is usually one meter long, but it can customized to suit each buyer.

When the cylindrical logs are sliced into rectangular prisms for industrial purposes, outer parts are left over due to their circular sections. With every log truncation, four pieces are produced. And almost all the time, these pieces end up being burned. To prevent wood waste and to obtain a living pot unit, two logs are combined with three bent metal parts and filled with moist soil. The log sides provide the moisturized condition, whereas the metal parts enable holding, carrying, and stacking. All parts required come in a box as a set that is easily built with screws. + Design Nobis
