Who doesn’t love that incredible feeling of discovery when you stumble across an amazing, one-of-a-kind vintage furniture piece at an incredible price at a flea market? I remember finding a pair of red Eero Saarinen executive chairs for $50 at a garage sale in San Francisco, and 15 years later I still treasure those babies like they’re my children. For a time (around the turn of the millennium), eBay and Craigslist were my go-to places for finding vintage designer pieces online, but the glut of professional sellers (and scammers) that have flooded those websites over the past decade means it is pretty hard to trust the buying or selling process on those sites anymore. Happily, a brand new website called ‘Chairish’ has just launched to rescue us vintage design aficionados. Like the younger, hipper love child of eBay meets Design Within Reach, the cutely namedChairish is a carefully curated online consignment marketplace for design obsessed people to buy and sellexceptional pre-owned home furnishings.
We’re so thrilled to be working with Chairish that we’ve teamed up to curate an ‘Inhabitat Collection’ – AND – we’re giving away a $500 Chairish shopping spree to one lucky Inhabitat reader! So peruse our Inhabicollection, and don’t miss out on the chance to get your hands on some one-of-a-kind design goodness! To enter the contest, .
Chairish carefully selects each piece that is put up for sale on the site, and helps owners sell their items with pre-packaged pick-up, storage, shipping and white-glove delivery. For buyers, it is a great place to browse a high-quality, curated selection ofvintage and pre-owned design pieces for your home. Vintage Brass Sea Shell Bookends + Floral Linen and Silk Pillows
Chairish was started by husband and wife entrepreneur team of Gregg and Anna Brockway and launched this past spring. The couple came up with the idea as they were moving homes and they couldn’t figure out how to best sell their beloved furniture that wouldn’t fit into their new space. As they asked around they realized this was a common conundrum, so they launched Chairish to offer a solution.
I’ve only known about Chairish for a few weeks and already I’m hooked. From the charmingly punny name and cute graphic design, to the awesome,one-of-a-kind knick-knacks and art pieces you can find on the site, I’m sold. In in the spirit of promoting pre-owned design, I thought I’d round up an Inhabitat-themed ‘clean-and-green’ collection for your shopping pleasure. Here are some of my favorite pieces currently for sale on Chairish:
