Olin Studio announces plans to turn Pier 26 into a vibrant park

    <a href="http://www.theolinstudio.com/">Olin Studio</a> revealed plans to turn <a href="http://inhabitat.com/nyc/?s=pier+26&amp;_=1484061125">Pier 26</a> into a vibrant park and community area. The pier will include ample spaces to enjoy nature with multiple landscaped spaces, along with programmed areas for play and relaxing. There's even a huge net suspended over the water for people to hang out on. The Hudson River Trust presented the concept design plan with the hopes of breaking ground a year from now.

    Olin also hopes to create a wetland area at the end of the pier, but that requires a bit more work, so it may or may not end up in the final design.

    The pier sits in Tribeca between Hubert and North Moore, where it has been unused for years.

    A separate maritime education center will be built by Rafael Viñoly Architects.

    To enter the pier, you pass through a forest walk area and into the playing fields. The esplanade then loops past the lounge areas and nets.

    The esplanade is a raised platform that moves throughout the space at 12 to 16 feet above the water.
