Edible Artwork by Risa HiraiUsing edible matter as her material, art student Risa Hirai creates mini models of food and bonsai trees. Instead of producing her artwork with traditional paints and brushes, her eclectic palette consists of flour, sugar, butter, and oil. Once combined the ingredients get baked in an ‘artistic’ oven which then emits the delicious smell of freshly baked cookies, adding to the overall experience of her artwork.1
Edible Artwork by Risa HiraiHirai, a senior at Tama Art University, says she wants people to experience an overload on their senses, to see, to smell, and even to eat the work. The enticing wafts of sweet fresh dough are bound to entice visitors. Gallery goers can expect a tasty treat from Hirai’s first exhibition, on display at Gallery Tokyo Humanite March 11 through 16.2
