Stepping into the Collective is a bit like stepping into the past, but with a modern-day edge. In the library-like Redchurch meeting room–one of six in the space–well-worn amber leather armchairs sit adjacent to flat-panel Apple TVs set off against a background of trompe l’oeil bookshelves.
The candy wall is made up of old crates salvaged from an upstate farm.
“Aesthetically, there’s an old world sort of vibe inside the space,” Chawla told us. “You’ll find a fair amount of tufted leather, mason jars full of candy and crate displays. At the same time though, we’ve also managed to fuse this older aesthetic into a more modern framework.”
Chawla estimates that about 50% of the decor in the space is recycled or salvaged.
There are surprises around every corner from a meeting room that can be accessed through an old cabinet door…
…to replica old-school phone booths where workers can take private calls.
Oh, and did we mention the ping-pong table, bike parking and free coffee bar?
So how much does a desk at the Collective cost? A mere $800 a month will buy you all of the amenities mentioned above plus access to a year-round ice cream cart.
