Sure, you could pony up for a geeky/techy solar powered backpack, but does solar power get more stylish than these hot eco handbags fromNoon Solar?! The Chicago company’s new line has just been released, consisting of three amazingly stylish bags that can charge everything from your cell phone to iPod while you strut. We’ve seen many a solar panel-clad bag before, but Noon Solar aren’t just your everyday energy-producing totes – they take sustainable style to the next level, proving once and for all that solar power can be a stylish accessory for men and women alike.

Noon Solar was founded by Marianne Fairbanks and Jane Palmer, two young School of the Art Institute of Chicago students (my alma mater!) with the hope to integrate solar power into daily life to both grow the solar industry and reduce dependency on oil. Each bag integrates a flexible solar panel that is capable of charging small electronic devices such as cell phones, iPods, or PDAs. The panel charges an internal battery pack that stores the power until it’s used.
If you’re wondering about the other materials, Noon Solar’s bags are, in fact, made of biodegradable materials such as chrome-free leathers that are tanned with sustainably harvested materials like rhubarb and walnuts and naturally hand-dyed hemp/cotton fabrics.
