Volkswagen’s Think Blue Beetle is Made From 2,805 Pieces of Recycled Trash!

This luminous <a title="Think Blue Beetle" href="https://www.facebook.com/ThinkBlueBeetle">Volkswagen Beetle</a> is a life-size work of art crafted by sculptor <a title="Haribaabu Naatesan" href="http://www.fossilss.com/index.html">Haribaabu Naatesan</a> from over 2,805 pieces of <a title="Sarah Frost Upcycles Thousands of Computer Keys Into Qwerty Wall Art" href="http://inhabitat.com/sarah-frost-upcycles-thousands-of-computer-keys-into-qwerty-wall-art/">scrap</a>. The detailed replica of the <a title="Volkswagen to Unveil Beetle-Inspired Electric Concept Car at the Detroit Auto Show" href="http://inhabitat.com/volkswagen-will-reveal-a-new-electric-concept-car-at-the-detroit-auto-show/">classic car</a> is made from 800 spark plugs, 200 bottle caps, <a title="Boat Made 100% from Trash Sets Sail from Taiwan" href="http://inhabitat.com/boat-made-100-from-trash-sets-sail-from-taiwan/">60 mother boards</a>, and an incredible array of other commonly discarded items - including audio cassettes, typewriters, pens, and barbeque sticks.

<a title="Haribaabu Naatesan" href="http://www.fossilss.com/index.html">Haribaabu Naatesan</a> created the Beetle art piece as part of Volkswagen's <a title="Volkswagen's Think Blue Campaign" href="http://thinkblue.vw.com/">Think Blue Campaign</a>.

The extensive assortment of trash was collected during Think Blue Clean Up drives undertaken by the German auto-engineering firm at various locations.

The trash was then meticulously sorted and assembled by Natesaan and his team over the course of 16 days, as shown in this nifty <a title="Video: The Making of the Think Blue Beetle" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&amp;v=YBQ31G4nRcA">time-lapse video</a>.

The Mumbai-based artist works entirely in the medium of <a title="Artist Tom Shelton Turns Scavenged Metal Scraps into Adorable Sculptures" href="http://inhabitat.com/tom-shelton-turns-scavenged-scraps-into-adorable-sculptures/">scrap</a>, creating large-scale <a title="Works by Haribaabu Natesaan" href="http://www.fossilss.com/recentWorks.html">intricate sculptures</a> with an intent to bring life to otherwise lifeless discarded objects.

The Think Blue Beetle is presently installed at the <a title="Kala Ghoda Arts Festival" href="http://www.kalaghodaassociation.com/">Kala Ghoda Arts Festival</a> in Mumbai, where it will be on display until February 12.
