Prolific architecture firm WXY Architecture Studio has just signed on to renovate New Jersey’s former shipyard, Kearny Point, into a modern innovation hub. Led by STUDIOS Architecture, the ambitious project’s first phase is the complex’s 210,000-square-foot Building 78, which has been converted into a modern, multi-tenant space for next-generation manufacturing companies.
Although few details have been released, the Kearny Point adaptive reuse project plans to transform the former shipyard into a multi-tenant artisanal manufacturing space. WXY will lead the Development Plan of the 130-acre space as well as the façade, interior finishes, and final master plans.

In addition to renovating Building 78, the site’s historic Building 54 may be revamped as well. The 280,000-square-foot space is an expansive, column-free space that would be a great match for large-scale manufacturing tenants or a wholesale market area.
Although the project calls for a complete transformation of the currently unused space, initial plans seek to retain the site’s rich industrial legacy by blending the building’s original brick exterior with modern glass and steel features.
