Need an escape from your fellow office workers? Or maybe a serene space to concentrate on what you’re doing? The Private Rocker, designed by Cranbrook product design student Kyle Fleet in collaboration with Herman Miller, just may be the office retreat you’ve been searching for. Spotted at this year’s ICFF in New York City, this stylish chair sure beats a break by the water cooler.
Contemporary office design is all about collaboration and easy communication, with communal desks and low-walled cubicles abounding. But research shows that workers are more productive if they have access to a little privacy, and the option to disconnect and concentrate on just their own work if they need to.
So what’s a privacy-craving office worker to do? Herman Miller attacked the problem by teaming up with students from the Cranbrook Academy of Art for a joint research program called Rest and Concentration in the Workplace. 16 students took part, and then the manufacturer chose six proposals to be prototyped and displayed at the fair.
This wood, leather and wool rocker by Kyle Fleet was one of our favorites.
