Silent Crowd is a stunning urban design project by architects S.Dimitriou, M.Koutsari, M. Kyropoulou, A.Manolaki, M.Panagiotidou, K.Panopoulos, M.Koulouri, G.Velgiris, landscape architect M.Koulouri, design advisor Y.Tsoukalas, and electrical/mechanical engineer, N.Mantzos. The urban renewal project won 1st honorable mention in a competition for the redesign of Eleftheria Square in Thessaloniki, Greece. Through revealing the significance of the historic site, Silent Crowd responds to questions that relate to sustainability as well as urban continuity with respect to the sea, adaptive reuse, and collective urban memory. These ideas are reflected through architectural forms and human interactions that pull upon both nature and technology.
