WXY principal Claire Weisz and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership presented the Strand during a Community Board 2 meeting last week. The presentation included updated design renderings for Borough Hall Park, Cadman Plaza Park, and Commodore Barry Park as well as both the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. In fact, the ambitious plan would see the Brooklyn Heights area and Dumbo almost completely revitalized.

Some of the architects’ ideas included replacing a parking lot next to Borough Hall with outdoor event space and a cafe. The plan also suggests establishing a more fluid link between Cadman Plaza Park and the Brooklyn Bridge by adding bike lanes.
Additionally, the architects would like to see the area around Brooklyn Bridge at Prospect Street be turned into a more welcoming public space where people could take in the beautiful view of Manhattan. The presentation also calls for added lighting and seating to the bridge underpass and maybe even a cafe area.
Although the Brooklyn Strand project is garnering more and more local support, the project is in the very, very early stages and funding possibilities are still up in the air.
