The historic Loew’s Kings Theatre is undergoing a massive renovation that will restore the once majestic space to its original French Renaissance splendor. Constructed in 1929, the 3,200 seat auditorium was once the largest indoor theater in Brooklyn but has been closed since 1977. After falling into disrepair and abandonment for over 30 years, the building is finally being resurrected through a $94 million project led by Houston-based ACE Theatrical Group.

The project so far has been a grueling three-year rehabilitation process to repair and replace the interior.

Mayor Bloomberg and Brooklyn Borough President Markowitz originally signed off on the project on February 2010 as $70 million renovation. The full redevelopment and rehabilitation of the theatre, however only broke ground earlier this March as a $94 million.

When the restoration is complete in 2014, ACE plans to host about 200 to 250 productions a year.

ACE hopes the new stage bill be host to every form of entertainment including concerts, theatrical productions, dance and performing arts presentations and musical and comedy shows, as well as community events that reflect Brooklyn's impressive diversity.

Another hope of the project is that the classic 20th century movie palace will become a centerpiece of a revitalized Flatbush.
