Our <a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/finalists/">lighting competition</a> received hundreds of interesting, unusual and inspiring designs for eco lamps, and after sorting through 400+ entries we're excited to announce our <a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/finalists/">40 finalists</a>. Light Bit of Reading Lamp by Lucy Norman<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/a-bit-of-light-reading/">Light Bit of Reading Lamp by Lucy Norman</a> Lucy Norman's "Light Reading" is made entirely from discarded books found at charity shops. Every page is folded in half, producing a circular arrangement which hangs around a ceiling light.2
Blender Lamp by Melinda Merinsky<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/vintage-broken-blenders-turned-into-lamps/">Blender Lamp by Melinda Merinsky</a> <br> <br> This lamp, designed by Minda Merinsky, is made out of a recycled blender. The blender is re-wired so that the original on/off switch controls the light.3
Blossom Bulbs by Pierre Ospina<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/pierre-ospinas-blossom-bulbs/">Blossom Bulbs by Pierre Ospina</a> <br> <br> Pierre Ospina's Blossom Bulbs are a mirror image of Nature’s ways of diversification through growth. Slender shoots made from rubber tire linings are spread in various widths and heights, distributing LED light in a diverse, playful, and flexible display.4
Coffee Pot Lamp by Gilles Eichenbaum<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/glowing-schilthorn-transforms-an-old-coffee-pot-into-a-lamp/">Coffee Pot Lamp by Gilles Eichenbaum</a> <br> <br> Gilles Eichenbaum has made an art out of recycling old kitchenware into incredible lighting. Giles is a true craftsman who repurposes everything from colanders to kettles to broken toasters to create illuminating masterpieces.5
Tetra Pak Lamp by Edward Chew<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/edward-chews-tetra-pak-origami-lamps/">Tetra Pak Lamp by Edward Chew</a> <br> <br> These stunning lamps designed by Edward Chew are made from recycled Tetra Pak cartons which were cut into strips, folded into hundreds of pieces, and then assembled without the use of any adhesives.6
Hangelier by Alex Witko<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/hangelier-2-1/">Hangelier by Alex Witko</a> <br> <br> The Hangelier series by Alex Witko is made up of lampshades crafted from salvaged bike parts and off-the-shelf wooden hangers.7
Bottle Lamps by Jerry Kott<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/khrysalis-and-kortex-lamp-series/">Bottle Lamps by Jerry Kott</a> The Khrysalis and Kortex Lamps by Jerry Kott are beautiful pendants that upcycle used wine bottles into beautiful pendant lighting fixtures. Each lamp is 17 inches in length and would be the perfect showpiece in an organic wine bar.8

Packaging Lamp by David Gardener<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/lamp-packaging-doubles-as-protection-and-fixture/">Packaging Lamp by David Gardener</a> The Packaging Lamp designed by David Gardener, achieves zero waste with it's 2-in-1 design, where the packaging becomes the actual fixture. The structure of the lamp is constructed from paper pulp and houses all the electronic parts of the lamp for storage/transit.11
Ella" Plastic Bottle Chandelier by Sarah Turner<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/ella-plastic-bottle-chandelier/">Ella" Plastic Bottle Chandelier by Sarah Turner</a> Designed by Sarah Turner, "Ella" is made from 310 plastic drinks bottles and has quite the presence at a size of over one meter wide. Each of the 310 bottles were collected from coffee shops and homes and then given a good clean.12
Scribble Pendant Lamp by Jennifer Huang<a href="http://inhabitat.com/bright-ideas-competition/scribble-pendant-lamp-created-from-twisted-ticonderoga-pencils/">Scribble Pendant Lamp by Jennifer Huang</a> The Scribble Pendant Lamp, created by Jennifer Huang, is designed to provide a decorative feature to the ambient lighting system of a space. Inspired by the classroom setting of Edgewood Elementary School, the soft mood light is diffused by 1/8” thick acrylic panels that are suspended in a volume composed of 256 No. 2 twisted pencil frames.13
