If H&P Architects win the competition to design Viet Nam’s Expo 2015 Pavilion in Milan, it will have a steel frame filled up with a staggered series of salvaged wood modules of different lengths that not only promote sustainability but also keep costs for constructing the temporary structure suitably low. These modules will in turn incorporate space for planting rice.
The interior of the building will be suitably spacious for various exhibits, while daylighting pulses through the spaces between the exterior facade. Like a giant green timber ziggurat, the Pavilion of Dream Terraces adds genuine practical value to an otherwise mostly symbolic representation of Vietnamese cultural history.
