Sou Fujimoto’s design was selected in an anonymous competition held by the Liget Budapest museum project. French architecture studio Vallet de Martinis DIID Architectes and Hungarian firm KÖZTI Architects & Engineers were also selected to design museums. All buildings will incorporate sustainable features and be designed with a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.

The proposed all-white building comprises a large and porous lotus-like roof that sits above a glazed base. The ceiling is peppered with oblong-shaped skylights, some of which are paired with a similarly shaped glazed floor cutout to allow sunlight to pass through multiple levels. The roof will be accessible via a winding staircase and boast panoramic views of the surrounding park. The £190 million development is expected to break ground in 2016 and museums are slated to open in March 2018. The Liget Budapest project is also currently hosting a competition for the park’s New National Gallery and Ludwig Museum.
